Every March 20, we celebrate World Oral Health Day! The FDI World Dental Federation launched this initiative to raise public awareness of prevention and respect for good oral hygiene. For its triennial 2021-2023 campaign, the FDI has chosen "Be proud of your mouth" as its theme, with #WOHD21 and #MouthProud.
About the FDI World Dental Federation
Founded in 1900 Fédération dentaire internationale (FDI) is one of the oldest organizations in the field of dentistry. Its members include some 200 national dental associations and specialist groups in over 130 countries. In total, the FDI represents over one million dentists worldwide.
The FDI World Dental Federation is a non-profit NGO based in Geneva, Switzerland. It maintains official relations with the World Health Organization, governments and international partners.
The FDI's vision is to lead the world towards optimal oral health. To this end, it shares knowledge on the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of oral pathologies. It also organizes educational programs, awareness campaigns and professional congresses.
The Swiss Society of Dentists SSO supports this worldwide action.
Visit Swiss Society of Dentists SSO is an active member of the FDI World Dental Federation. It is the legitimate representative of dentists practicing in Switzerland. The HELVIDENT dental centers in Lausanne, Fribourg and Aigle are members of the SSO. They are committed to respecting professional ethics as defined in the profile, statutes and Code of Ethics 2007 of the Swiss Society of Dentists.

World Oral Health Day 2021
Every year, on March 20, World Oral Health Day is celebrated around the world. In English, the action is called World Oral Health Day. The FDI World Dental Federation launched this initiative in response to an alarming figure: oral diseases affect nearly 3.5 billion people worldwide. The aim of the day is to share the tools and knowledge needed to prevent and control these diseases.
The pillars of good oral hygiene
Healthy teeth and a healthy body make for a healthy life. Here's how rules for effective hygiene which will prevent the majority of oral diseases:
- Brush your teeth at least twice a day for at least two minutes.
- Use fluoride toothpaste.
- Clean interdental spaces with dedicated accessories.
- Eat a healthy, balanced diet.
- Reduce sugar and tobacco consumption.
- Regular check-ups and scaling at the dentist.
