Schedule your next dental visit

It's important to set up regular check-ups for your oral health. Contact your dentist now to schedule an annual check-up for you and the rest of the family. And don't forget to bring your youngest as soon as he or she blows out their first candle! People with chronic illnesses require two visits a year.

Play sports regularly

It's undoubtedly one of the resolutions we hear most often at the start of the year. In fact, regular physical activity goes a long way towards improving overall health. It will also have an impact on your oral health. Drink water regularly during your workout. Rinse your mouth after taking sugary energy bars or drinks. And don't forget fluoride, an important ally in strengthening enamel. If you or your child take part in a high-risk sport, remember to wear a mouthguard. Cycling, rollerblading, skateboarding, rugby... all these activities involve the risk of a fall or collision. Every dentist's advice: wear a mouthguard to avoid dental trauma

Reduce your sugar intake

We all have the right to enjoy the pleasures of the table during the festive season. From the beginning of January, it's time to get back to our good habits and eat a healthy, balanced diet. That's the advice from our dentists. Everyone knows: too much sugar is bad for your health. There's visible sugar, the kind you add to your coffee or cake, but also the hidden sugar found in most industrial products. In other words, we're far exceeding the recommended daily intake. This year, avoid sweets and soft drinks. Consumption of these tooth-damaging products should remain the exception.

The same applies to energy and sports drinks. Even if their name suggests that they are healthy drinks, they contain a lot of sugar. In fact, it's often the main ingredient. For all dentists in Switzerland, sugar means cavities. Reduce your consumption of sugary drinks and always prefer plain water. If you have a tendency to nibble between meals, try retreating to a snack. sugar-free chewing gum or a large glass of water. This will reduce the repeated acid attacks on teeth that lead to cavities.

Helping you quit smoking

Tobacco is one of the biggest enemies of your oral health. You're aware of it, but you just can't seem to kick the habit. Some people quit smoking overnight. If this isn't your case, you're not alone. Many smokers try to quit, with great difficulty. If you find yourself in this situation, you should know that you can be accompanied by a specialist. Don't hesitate to ask your health practitioner for advice.

Improve your oral hygiene

January has just begun. So there's still time to make good resolutions for 2023. Have you thought about taking care of your teeth? L'World Health Organization recommends 2 brushings a day, morning and evening. Each brushing should last at least 2 minutes. For effective plaque removal, it's best to use a fluoride toothpaste. There is a wide range of toothpastes to suit every stage of life and every dental pathology.

To complete your daily hygiene routine, remember to floss. The Swiss Dental Society recommends that you floss every time you go to the dentist. interdental space every evening after brushing. After all, food residues and bacteria remain between your teeth. Eventually, this creates problems: bad taste, bad breath, gingivitis, periodontal disease, mobility, tooth loosening... The solution: floss, waxed if possible, or waxed and mentholated.

No matter what time of year it is, you should never neglect the health of your teeth. HELVIDENT welcomes you to its three dental clinics in Fribourg, Lausanne and Aigle. Don't hesitate to make an appointment for dental care and advice.
